I have always had a passion for working with parents and babies. I started out as a Norland Nanny, and worked in that role and as a nursery nurse until the birth of my first child in 1998. After the birth of my second child, I decided I wanted to change direction slightly, and I trained as an NCT antenatal teacher, qualifying in 2005. This training, combined with my own extremely positive birth experiences (my third child came along in 2004), cemented my passion for birth, and I haven’t looked back.

I co-founded Birth Baby Balance with Charlotte in 2008, and since then have added to the range of services we currently provide by qualifying as an IAIM baby massage instructor in 2010, a placenta encapsulator in 2014, a KGHypnobirthing instructor in 2019 and a Body Ready Method® Pro in 2023. I also provide Closing the Bones ceremonies in Cheltenham with Georgie Ruthven.

We are proud to be the only private provider of wraparound care in the area, not only with our birth and postnatal doula services, but also with our antenatal and postnatal courses for new parents, and our placenta encapsulation service.

Charlotte Osborn

I trained as a Registered General Nurse in 1989, and have since had many years working in the field of child health and education, within my role as a school nurse.

I have been working as a qualified postnatal doula since 2008, and in that time I have supported many families with twins, and so have gained a lot of experience in this field.

During my own first pregnancy, I felt that I was embarking on a race! This race would be the biggest adventure of my life - motherhood. It's a journey that has been (and still continues to be) exhilarating, frustrating, exciting, rewarding, but at times very scary.

As with any race, the 'start' can make all the difference. I was very fortunate to be surrounded by supportive friends and family who ensured that I 'got off the blocks' to a great start! I'm convinced that this support and encouragement is vital for all new mothers, and that’s why I feel so passionate about providing a doula service that does just that.

I am a non-smoker, fully insured and member of Doula UK.

Being pregnant and having children is one of the most amazing, but also overwhelming, experiences of your life. Each day can be completely different from the next. I started my journey working with pregnant mothers and new families ten years ago working on a maternity ward as a Maternity Support Worker. I helped care for and support new families looking after themselves and their new babies. I was lucky enough to work in a hospital which has gained the gold standard UNICEF baby friendly initiative. Through this I gained excellent infant feeding training and experience. This aspect of my work I particularly enjoy.

After moving to the Cotswolds, I met someone who told me about doula work and this fitted well with my love of nurturing new families and making a difference to people’s lives. I followed on and undertook doula training with Nurturing Birth in November 2018.

I started my family 17 years ago and find it very rewarding, as well as at times challenging. I often think, if only I knew then what I know now! Since that time the information we have about newborns and infants has increased dramatically. I love being able share the knowledge I have gained with new families whilst supporting them to develop their own parenting style and find their natural parenting instincts.
