Birth Doula Services

What is a birth doula?

A birth doula is someone who is there to offer you and your partner emotional and physical support and encouragement throughout your labour. This enables you to focus on the job of birthing your baby, and your partner to focus on supporting you.

We believe that the majority of women are able and capable of birthing their baby without the need of additional medical support. However, in order to achieve this, they need to be able to relax, let go, trust in their body and their instincts, feel safe and private, and know they are well supported by their birthing partners. Having people around them who they already know and have built a trusting relationship with, who know their hopes, fears and needs, and who will act as an advocate for them if necessary, can go a long way to enabling women to feel confident to birth their baby in the way that is right for them.

Postnatal Doula Services

What does a postnatal doula do?

We believe that the role of a postnatal doula is to enable and empower women to fulfill their role as a mother by giving support and encouragement in the early days and weeks of parenting.

The first few days and weeks with a new baby can feel overwhelming and daunting, as they don’t come with a manual, so you really do feel like you are learning on the job. Having someone to hand to ask questions of, be reassured by, share the load with and who takes the pressure off can give you a solid foundation to branch out from as your confidence grows.

Some women want support as soon as they get home, whilst for others it is more important once their partner has returned to work, especially if they don't have a strong family support network nearby.

As this exciting adventure unfolds it is very difficult to quantify the type or amount of help you might require. As postnatal doulas we offer flexible options that range from just a few hours to a more comprehensive package that can include overnight support if you’d like it.
